Welcome to week 1 of Meeka Speaks!
This week post is about the reflection on the creation and usage behind of social media accounts. We can’t be socially evolved without the usage of social media nowadays. My mother was born in 1948 and is currently knowledgeable in creating accounts on more than 2+ social media platforms. There is no turning away from social media in the twentieth century. According to W. Barnett Pearce describes this development as revolutionary, in a large part because of the rise of communication technologies (such as radio, television, satellites and computer networking)” (Littlejohn & Foss, 2011, p. 5).
My personal reflection on creating social media accounts and being active on my accounts have been extremely important. Social media plays an active role when promoting your own brand. I have created a WordPress account in the past for a blog called Dear Singleness (Dear, S). When I created the WordPress account for the first time the experience was and can be frustrating. It can be time-consuming to develop the ideal site to align with your image. In a sense, you become a web developer minus the expertise. Without the expertise of a web developer, you can take days or months trying to create your site. You can learn a lot about yourself when trying to translate your ideas to an online site.
What did I learn about myself:
- I have a creative soul.
- I have an eye for details.
- Writing can be a stress reliever.
Most importantly, I like being the visionary behind the development of websites now. “Communication is so broad that it cannot be reduced or confined to any single paradigm” (Littlejohn & Foss, 2011, p. 7). In the stages of gaining followers, you have to think of a persons learning patterns.
Hopefully, over the next few weeks of the course, while using YouTube, I will overcome my fears when developing the vlog (video blog) portion for my blog. The vlog portion I would use to appeal to my visual followers. This is initially how I view social media purpose, it’s suppose to appeal to different aduiences and learning traits.
Digital media is important to an online class in the same ways. It’s another way to interact and communicate with one another. Communication is one of those everyday activities intertwined with all of the human life so completely that we sometimes overlook its pervasiveness, importance, and complexity (Littlejohn & Foss, 2011, p. 1). No matter the difficulties of media, its purpose is to entertain, seek attention, and adapt to different learning abilities.
